Inclusion of Children with Disabilities and Disorders in the Church

The church welcomes all kinds of people and, therefore, should be an inclusive community where everyone is treated according to their specific needs so that they may become disciples of Jesus, productive for the Kingdom of God, respected, and loved. However, the church still neglects one group: children with disabilities and disorders, such as Down syndrome, autism, visual impairments, hearing impairments, motor restrictions, ADHD, among others. This neglect does not happen out of malice, but out of a lack of knowledge on how to act. There is little literature on the subject and even fewer successful experiences. For this reason, this work by Aline Santos, published by God Books, arrives to fill the gap and serve as a theoretical and practical guide on how to welcome children with disabilities and disorders and their families into churches—successfully and consistently, as shown by the experience of the Atitude Baptist Church, where the author leads the inclusion ministry.
